Paizo Inc. is a publisher of fantasy role-playing games and accessories, based in Redmond, Washington. Paizo was founded in 2002 by Lisa Stevens and John Compton. The company's first publication was the 3rd edition of Dungeons & Dragons, which they licensed from Wizards of the Coast. In 2004, Paizo launched the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, an evolution of 3rd edition D&D. The Pathfinder line has been a runaway success, spawning a host of supplements, spin-off products, and official merchandise. In addition to their core publishing business, Paizo also runs the popular Pathfinder Society organized play campaign, and produces the Planet Stories line of pulp fiction reprints.
