Picador is an imprint of Pan Macmillan in the United Kingdom and Australia and of Macmillan Publishing in the United States. It specializes in the publication of literary fiction and non-fiction books. Picador was founded in 1972 with the aim of publishing outstanding international writing in paperback. The first four books published were works by Gunter Grass, Heinrich Boll, Patrick White and Yasunari Kawabata. In 2003, Pan Macmillan relaunched Picador with a new look and a commitment to publish the best contemporary writing, including authors such as Zadie Smith, Bret Easton Ellis, Jonathan Safran Foer, Lionel Shriver, Jim Crace, Anne Enright, Ali Smith, Sarah Waters and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Today, Picador continues to publish a wide range of fiction and non-fiction from some of the most acclaimed and exciting writers working today including Margaret Atwood, Donna Tartt, Richard Flanagan, Rachel Kushner, Hanya Yanagihara, Eimear McBride, Neville Jason and many more.
