Guitar is good components not so much
The basic guitar is well made, looks and plays well, but if you buy one of these budget about $400 dollars for upgrades. All of the electronics are cheap and feel as such. The tone pot doesn't function is a tone pot, its useless. The master volume has a treble bleed circuit but it almost seems like it loses something in tone when you roll it back. I've had the guitar for 6 mos and already the toggle switch went bad and needs replacement, however the cool decco tip uses different threads than the standard gibson toggle switch that you get at stewmac, so I will have to put a les paul tip on my gibson switch when I replace the original. The POTS are about 1mm smaller on the threads than the standard pots you buy at stewmac or the like, so when I upgrade to cts pots I'll have to file all of the holes out. I'm calling around looking for the electromatic compatible pots and toggle switch right now, hope I can find them. The pickups aren't too bad but I would recommend the 5230 instead since it comes with blacktop filtertrons. the broadtrons are a more muscular sounding pickup but they lack some of the classic gretsch sparkle of the filtertrons. The neck pickup seems to get kind of muddy when you turn on your favorite overdrive pedal; I use a tube screamer 801 and a fulltone ocd and they both get kind of muddy even with the pedal tone knobs turned up. the bridge pickup isn't bad, has a little sparkle and the breakup is pretty reckless. You're going to want to change the tuning machines too, they're kind of lackluster; indecisive feeling.to summarize: the build quality of the basic guitar is good, the fretwork, binding and walnut fretboard and synthetic nut are also quite good. The rest of it is a bust. I would recommend if you have a spare mexi telecaster that you like you could for similar money pick up a pair of tvjones classic filtertrons and have your tech reroute for the filtertrons and replace the two pots with 500k's. I've heard some great tele's on youtube with tvjones filtertrons.About the neck, I like neck but it took a little getting used to. If what you want a slim neck this ain't it; however it's not a bat. but I do like it, it's a little fuller than say a gibson 1960 slim taper but I do like the width, it's on the narrow side and feels pretty good. Fun to play.also note that I damaged the pickguard and was unable to order a replacement from fender, that's right fender runs operations for gretsch. I think it looks better w/o the pickguard anyway.the guitar is made in china in case you're wondering.

More than I expected for the price
This is such a lovely guitar. The shimmering pale blue maple top with all of the chrome accents and thin silver/black purfling along with the deep, rich mahogany sides and back separated from the top by a strip of white binding, it's a thing of absolute beauty. Sometimes I get up just to look at it.This isn't my first guitar, but it is my first electric so I don't feel qualified to talk much about the electronics. All I can say is that it sounds great to me. The 3-way toggle switch selects neck pickup, both pickups, or bridge pickup. There's one master volume pot, plus a master tone pot and a separate volume pot for each pickup, should you want to fine tune how much you're getting from each one in the middle toggle position (both pickups).Complaints? Not many, and they're minor. On the back, there are three access panels for electronics. I wish they were mahogany and matched to the body. The pick guard doesn't actually touch the front of the guitar, it's offset and floats above it a bit. This is fine, except there's a screw that protrudes out the back of the pick guard and if you were to push that pick guard in toward the guitar, the metal screw would contact the finish on the front. Of course, it only contacts in an area behind the pick guard where it can't be seen, but it bothers me nonetheless. I'll probably put something behind the screw to protect the finish.Overall, a REALLY great first guitar. I had thought about a Squier but I'm glad I spent a little extra and got a guitar that I'll end up keeping even after I eventually decide to invest in one of the costlier Stratocasters.
