I've installed quite a few ceiling fans in my time. (I’m almost 70.) That includes taking them down when moving to a new home. That makes sense only for quality fans of course, especially when you like a particular style that's hard to find. Where I live now, one of the first things I did when moving in was to remove the cheapo ceiling fans and put up two I brought with me. But eventually fans wear out. One I replaced recently conked out because of poor wiring inside it. (I disassembled it to determine why it failed.) So one thing I'm even more concerned with now is quality. This fan fits the bill. I saw zero signs of corner-cutting. In fact, there were niceties not common anymore. Thick, one-inch diameter down-rods for one. This fan comes with two. One short, the other long. Nothing about this fan struck me as cheap. No tinny thin metal or other cost-cutting measures, as I’ve noticed recently in other fans. I was quite pleased.I like old-fashioned styling, but that’s not popular nowadays. This one is sufficiently ornate, although not overly so. The one true complaint I have is the globes. Excuse me for saying this, but imo, they're bug-ugly! I was able to replace the globes cheaply with some from Lowes, of all places. Cost me an extra $50, but I considered money it well spent.One significant issue with replacing the globes on this fan is that there are five of them. Globes typically come in sets of three or four. Fortunately, I found globes I liked, sold individually. Around $8 apiece—yay! ($10 as of 2015) Simple molded glass, so not the highest quality, but I think they look nice. (Far better than the original bug-ugly ones, that's for certain!)One of the best features about this fan is the remote. It's not fancy, but it does the job. It's a common model, so replacement controls can be found pretty easily. One design issue I appreciate is that the circuitry on these shuts off the fan momentarily when switching speeds. You can hear two little clicks; one shutting off, and the other coming on. The significance of this design is that it should make the fan last longer. With common pull chains, it’s necessary to cycle through the different speeds. This wears parts out a lot faster.Cheap pull-chain mechanisms are the bane of ceiling fans. The chains break; the mechanisms jam. Etc, etc. The other issue is capacitors wearing out. This didn't used to be much of a problem, but it is now. Replacement capacitors from China are a total crap-shoot. There are literally hundreds of them, and you have to buy the exact same as replacements. Yet even after you get it, you may not have bought what you thought you did. Nowadays, you might as well throw out your whole fan if a capacitor fails. It's not worth all the hassle. UGH! That’s where this fan turning off when switching speeds comes in. Switching speeds regularly is what wears out the capacitors. In a typical ceiling fan, turning it off is a matter of cycling through the speeds from high to low. That’s how most of the failures are caused. If you want a fan that lasts, try to avoid pulling the chains. This model of fan doesn't have that problem, because it doesn't work that way. No pull-chains. Yay!!!Anyway, I'm quite happy with this fan. My only complaint is a lack of brightness control. I managed to create a WiFi, Smartphone work-around, but I wouldn't recommend doing so, except for hard-core DIY folks like myself. I was willing to take a chance, making significant modifications to a standard wifi dimmer, and fitting its circuit board inside the fan housing. It works great, but I know about electronic circuitry, and how to ensure what I’ve done is safe and reliable. What it does prove is that manufacturers *could* easily put WiFi controls in their ceiling fans if they wanted to. Some do now, but not many. And I'm not willing to shell out hundreds of extra dollars for that one added feature. But risk $35 to try doing it myself? Sure!Amazon recommends Hunter brand fans, but I don’t. I’ve used Hunter in the past, and they’re no more reliable than other brands. The one comparable to this fan is $200, but it still uses the old fashioned pull chains and a cheap looking light fixture. Nope, I would definitely recommend this one over the Hunter. No question about it.***UPDATE***It’s almost 2025 now, and the fans are working as good as new. Four years of reliable service is a good start. Each is on about 10-14 hours a day during the summertime. (Around 5 months where I live.) Even the original remote control batteries are still working!

When I purchased these fans and bought two to be eact, I didn't realize how beautifully the craftmanship was made, they are quiet in the master and huge master on suite!These were replacements from the standard white & gold cheapos!I love these fans and recommend them for anyone interested in having very elegant styled fans & not see same from your local hardware store, as H/D displays!J

The media could not be loaded. I gave my wife dozens of fans to choose from. She chose this one. It was a great choice. I think that it's a little too large for the bedroom. Mostly because of the elaborate light fixture. But, It is beautiful.The installation was pretty standard for most ceiling fan / light fixtures. The one error (that I caught) in their instructions was that the small bell shaped cover that goes on the shaft faces upward on the assembly, not downward.After two weeks of operating the fan, we can't really find anything to complain about. Personally, I am going to replace the LED bulbs with something a little brighter. The bulbs that come with it are great for ambiance and romantic lighting. But, if this is your primary light source in the room, it's not enough.The actual fan motor is very compact, dust proof and efficient. The big motor cover is just for looks. I ran the fan at all three speeds and it does very well and very quietly at all three.I believe that this fan will look good in any room, where you are going for a early industrial, Deco period look and provide great service. Five stars.

This is a gorgeous fan! Not the easiest install at the ceiling, but we got through it. This was bought at a great price and is decorative! I hope that this lasts forever.

Excellent product. Quality parts and design with no surprises during installation. It operates quietly and the remote is small and handy. Easy switch position to seasonally change the blade direction. The light bulbs could be a little brighter but that's easy enough to change out. THANK YOU to the previous reviewers who gave so much detailed information.The only downside: Made in China. An elder family member really wanted it, so...

The fan is exactly as pictured. We were pleasantly surprised by that, then it went downhill from there. As suggested we had the fan professionally installed. It worked perfectly for about an hour, then it would not respond to commands from the remote. I sent an email to the company for help, ignored. I sent two more and finally got a response asking if I knew what the problem was. What? How in the world would I know what the problem is, it doesn’t respond to the remote. No response, sent two more emails that were ignored and still haven’t heard back. Had the electrician back out and they’re stumped, they tried contacting the company with of course no reply. The fixture itself is gorgeous but unless you’re looking for something that is purely decorative DO NOT BUY!!! Customer service is non existent and it’s already cost me for two trips out by an electrician.

Really like fan and lights. Not a fan of remote control only. Thought it could install using light switch on wall. Remote control works great, but such devices seem to disappear with amazing frequency in our house. As that is more a personal than manufacturing defect, can't really hold it against the company. In terms of looks, metal parts and blades are elegant. Glass is cream frosted at top and dark brown at bottom, not quite as nice in photos, but decent. Very quiet at each speed. We are going to try 3 watt LED bulbs (25 watt U.S.). We found bulbs included (1 watt) are a nice candlelit luminescence (if you like soft lighting), but doesn't work for daily use. Normal 40 watt U.S. bulbs are actually too bright with 5 bulbs as they emit radiance straight down. Hopefully LED 3 watt will be just right. Overalk, beautiful fan. Update: if hou leave lights on, wall switch CAN be used.
