I'm 56 and the contents of this box made me remember my experiences when I was Trick or Treating during my childhood. A lot of the candy that is in the box is the sort of small candy that was put in my bag by strangers who didn't want to shell out for chocolate. I will note that there is not much chocolate at all in this (save some Sixlets, I think). I don't have a problem with this because it makes the selection safe for shipping all year round and a lot of the chocolate that I got as a kid isn't really retro candy because it's still sold today as the same candy. Much of the emphasis in the assortment that is included is on hard candy, gum, taffy, and fruit flavored jellies and powdered candy.Most of this candy is stuff which I haven't seen since I was a kid and is not available in most stores. You would probably have to go to a retro specialty shop to find most of it. The box is packed with candy so there was definitely no skimping on volume. It comes with a sheet of paper talking about what life was like when you were born and a birthday greeting. As a gift, I think this would be a lot of fun. My husband is 59 and I know we enjoyed going through the box and talking about what was familiar to us and what we liked best. It brought back a lot of fond memories.In terms of value, I considered this more in terms of the overall package, the difficulty of obtaining the type of candy myself, the research that went into the selections, and the nostalgia. I'm sure someone could buy all of this candy and not spend as much as the cost of the candy in the box if they tried hard enough, but it would take a lot of effort. The value isn't so much in the candy's cost, but in the experience provided which I found worthwhile.

I buy boxes of candy for the “birthday Year” of my family or friend that I gift the box. It never fails to put a smile on the birthday person's face and bring back happy childhood memories! Everyone who celebrates with the birthday person also recalls happy childhood memories! A great Birthday gift !! I bought this product as a present. When they opened it the candy Out, The chocolate was melted, The taffy was like a brick. I spent good money For this product and I think it should have been sent with fresh not outdated Candy in the Box.
