Established in 1880, Parastone, originally part of the famous art dealership “Borzo” became an independent company in 1963 and devoted itself to producing high quality reproductions of timeless masterpieces for over 50 years. The collection “Mouseion” is devoted to make exact three-dimensional representations of masterpieces. The French Impressionist artist Edgar De’ work “La Petite Danseuse de Quatorze Ans”(1881) is represented in this exact small resin statue reproduction including fabric for the skirt and a wooden base where the ballerina stands resting in the fourth ballet position. “La Petite Danseuse de Quatorze Ans”(1881) sculpture was made after Marie van Goethem, a young student of the Paris Opera Ballet, in wax and featuring a real bodice, tutu, ballet slippers and a wig of real hair, where everything but the hair ribbon and the tutu were covered in wax. Although scholarship continues to debate on the exact relationship of the young dancer and Edgar De, it is known that it was common for young ballerinas at the Opera during the 1880’s to seek for protectors among the wealthy visitors back stage.
