Prodotto simbolo della Distilleria Caffo è il Vecchio Amaro del Capo, liquore di erbe di Calabria, frutto di un’antica ricetta calabrese poi rielaborata e migliorata dall’esperienza acquisita dalle quattro generazioni della famiglia Caffo. Va bevuto ghiacciato (a -20° C. nei caratteristici bicchierini del Capo) per esaltare le caratteristiche delle particolari erbe che lo compongono. Il Vecchio Amaro del Capo racchiude in sé i principi attivi di tante benefiche erbe, fiori, frutti e radici della generosa terra di Calabria, infusi in finissimo alcole, per aiutare la digestione e dare una gradevole sensazione di benessere. Tra le 29 erbe officinali che compongono l’infuso ne ricordiamo, per le loro proprietà tonicodigestive, alcune molto diffuse in Calabria come l’arancio amaro, l’arancio dolce, la liquirizia, il mandarino, la camomilla e il ginepro. Il suo gusto gentile ed aromatico ben si adatta anche ai palati più delicati, non abituati agli “Amarissimi” e ricordiamo che come vuole la migliore tradizione calabrese. Il Vecchio Amaro del Capo, oggi è tra gli amari più diffusi e venduti in Italia e vanta il primato di essere stato il primo amaro ad essere stato proposto ghiacciato dagli slogan lanciati dall’azienda già a partire dagli anni ’70 quando il consumo era principalmente estivo e veniva distribuito solo in Calabria. Nel 2010 il Vecchio Amaro del Capo è stato l’unico amaro italiano premiato con la medaglia d’oro al concorso mondiale di Bruxelles.
