Useful travel companion

This 4G mifi device is ideal for travelling, especially as a couple or family with several devices, and you want to avoid horrendous roaming data rates. It's very pocketable and portable and of sturdy construction. It takes a full sized SIM card (adaptors are included). Just get a local SIM card for the country you're travelling to (or one with good rates there), make sure it's activated (if the mobile network activation requires making a phone call, you will need to do this with another phone first as this device can't make voice calls), connect to the WiFi access point with the details on the sticker and you're ready to go.The TPMiFi app is pretty good - which you can use when you're connected to the device. It's pretty modern design and easy enough to use (though some of the features might a bit hidden ). You can throttle individual devices which might be handy to ensure little Jonny doesn't use all of your data by watching hundreds of slightly different 4K baby shark remixes. You can change the WiFi signal strength to eek a bit more out of the battery. You can also view SMSs received too.The battery was the only part which was a little disappointing. It's removable (big plus as it makes it very repairable in theory), but in areas with less 4G signal (e.g. rural areas) it can drain quite quickly especially when using lots of data. However, it can operate whilst being charged - so you can pair it with a USB power bank (like an Anker PowerCore) to stay connected longer.Overall, thoroughly worth the modest investment if you use it even just for a couple of trips abroad.

In the car, in the park - hotspot everywhere

Have had and used this for the past couple of years. Now, to be perfectly honest, I used to avoid TP-Link products like the plague - they did however seem to put a lot of effort last years to improve their products and make them somewhat usable and at very good price which you can't ignore. So, in short - it does exactly what it says it would - creates a hotspot with any SIM-card and you can use it as a standard wi-fi network with all your devices (limited apparently to 10 at a time which most times isn't really an issue). Has more than expected functionality in terms of settings - speed limits and data restrictions to avoid data allowance surpass, flexibility on setting network and so on - can do everything you may need to even replicate your home network and not have to log into a new device and network - your devices would recognize it as a known home network if you set it up with the same SSID and password.Being USB powered is especially useful, as you can have it plugged in your car and have wi-fi for hours while driving providing wifi for everyone aboard. I've also had it plugged into an USB power bank and left in the car to provide internet for my dashcam and a small Blink Outdoor battery powered cam to keep an eye on the car while parked - that worked quite well.Speed - despite reviews of it being slow, you have to understand that greatly depends on the network load, signal strength, distance form the tower and not at last even the weather. And if you find your phone to at times have better speed, remember it didn't cost you 35 odd pounds, nor it's as small - has bigger antenna which greatly helps. But for what this device is, I'd say it's doing a darn good job and I can't (yet) fault it a single bit.Battery life - usually goes for at least 4 hours, which for me is more than enough, if you need more, just have a power bank handy. Finally, should you buy it - if you're looking for way to share single SIM card internet plan with all your devices when on the go - YES, certainly!--The Grumpy Engineer

Does the job

A neat little device that does the job intended. Battery life is good and can also be used when plugged in.Performance wise, the range seems solid and is only mildly affected by walls. This is only 4G not 5G but that's reflected in the price. It does feel a little plasticy and doesn't scream premium but again I feel that is reflected in the price point.

Usual rubbish after sales support from amazon don't buy

I purchased this MIFI device in April and it was OK, I then went away for May and when I came back I charged it up and it seemed to still be OK, but in the last couple of weeks it has stopped chargign on occassions and also doesn't charge right upto 100%.Amazon don't have an option to sort out the warranty claim? and TP Link are just ignoring my emails. This is a joke and probably very wrong under UK law, but there is no option to contact Amazon so I will probably have to take legal action which seems crazy for such a new and low cost device.Just don't buy from Amazon is probably the answer which is what I have done most of the time for the last few years.UPDATE ON 17/07/24I finally got a reply from TP Link and after several days they said send it back to them and then they will send a replacement? I have twice asked them how I am supposed to work without the MIFI? but it is a week now and they are still not answering, absolutely hopeless service and Amazon don't care as there is no warranty service link on the order. Also if you see this on Trust Pilot and other sites it is becasue Amazon are refusing to publish some reveiws, so like a lot of people that is why I publish on other sites so that the lack of warranty service is made public.

not bad for price but very entry level

So i got this as a mobile backup for home and to use out of house, overall its not that bad a little unit but it has its restrictions. When i got it understood it would be 2.4 only but thought would be ok, well its not really the band is just too cluttered in most places so droppouts are common. Also the IP range this uses on its DHCP is the standard local one 192.168.0.0 so its the same as allot of home ones and makes it harder to use. overall if you are out of house and just want a hotspot this will do the job but it is nothing special. And note the security on this is older WPA not WPA2 so probably if someone want in.. they will get in.
