---------------------
Arthur wants to play Deep Dark Sea on the computer every chance
he gets. When his mom leaves for work and asks him not to touch
the computer, Arthur can't resist. Disobedience leads to disaster
when something goes wrong and the computer screen goes blank.
Will Arthur be able to fix the computer before mom comes home
from work?
Features include five learning activities:
* Deep Dark Sea: Learn about world geography and ocean life in
this side-scrolling, arcade-style activity while exploring the
sea in search of hidden treasure.
* D.W.'s Store: Children learn counting skills when they make a
purchase for D.W.'s toys and work with D.W. in the café as they
cook up some wacky recipes. The counting gets more difficult as
D.W.'s purchases get more expensive.
* Treasure Hunt: Focused on developing reading and prereading
skills, Treasure Hunt is a fun and challenging activity designed
to encourage children to learn new words. Play against the
computer or another player.
* Frankenfish: A creativity activity where kids learn about
different sea creatures while creating some interesting creatures
of their own. Eyes, fins, props, and decorative stickers can also
be endlessly arranged. Print in color or black and white for
coloring book pages.
* Helicopter: Find the toy fire helicopter and then drop water
balloons onto a target. Use the remote control to help the
firefighters, do aerobatics, or lower a ladder to rescue the
firefighters.
* Also includes 13 surprises and puzzles

Review
------
This interactive storybook is more "adventure" than "computer,"
more fun than learning, so don't figure your youngsters are going
to learn about RAM and ROM and other computer stuff. Nope, this
is just another story on the computer screen starring the world's
most popular animated aardvark, Arthur. As in all better
electronic storybooks, this one has endless clickable
mini-performances and sound effects throughout the pages of the
"play me" version. Text is highlighted as the story reads on.
Plus, five activities provide plenty of play for kids-some of
them linked into the scenes from the storybook pages. One of the
games, the arcade-like underwater treasure hunt "Deep Dark Sea,"
is what Arthur was playing when he broke the family computer in
the story. Another game, "D.W.'s Store," teaches simple money
counting. "Frankenfish" is a standard mix-and-match of fins,
heads and body parts of actual sea creatures, with the added
value of short bios of the creatures. About the only thing kids
will learn about computers, though, is that if you c one,
it's expensive to fix. That's what Arthur learns. (Don Oldenburg,
