Penn-Plax Reptology Shale Step Ledge Cave Hideout - Aquarium & Terrarium Decoration - for Fish, Reptiles, Amphibians, and Small Animals - Large 2 (REP189)

Please do not buy this for your lizards, snakes, things without fur -- especially fish! I hope I don't bore posting several pics - I could post 10 more! Not only is this item *not* 7" tall as claimed (see lipstick comparison) but I am incredulous that any company would be so uncaring and have such low quality control that they don't mind selling dangerous items!The underside of this looks like someone slapped Bondo on a dented fender. It's bulges, razor sharp points, razor sharp edges - and I mean every. single. one. I only checked inside after reading here that a few said there were edges - I have never worried about an aquarium toy before but always give it a good looking over before I put it in my Betta or Molly tanks. I actually cut my hand on the inside of this on a point of "bondo" that was sticking up like a pin. In looking at the photos it's not clear where each edge is since I really would have had to put up a dozen for reference but I do have them. EVERY edge of this thing was razor sharp. This is the edge your fish would brush with their top fins when entering or leaving the inside areas. These are the side edges of the holes that it'd be normal for any animal to rub against as they turned to enter the space. I do like the stacked appearance though as someone else mentioned, the paint looks like your typical slopped on aquarium decorations. I'm sure you've seen them. Someone dragged a white brush around a brown color to simulate....snow, maybe.I spent a little over an *hour* filing down this thing. From sandpaper to nail filing sticks to reach the crannies and twists. Sections broke off like it was a thin afterthought that was attached to the main body. Sections were exposed, pointy rocks, and can I repeat this? - every. single. edge was like a razor.Just turning to enter would shave skin off your pet. Your fish's fins would be ripped to bits. Your snake would get cut. Your snails' shells would be scraped.Etc.This is horrible. After sanding it is useable, after also adding marine glue to several areas to smooth out what I couldn't reach. PLEASE don't get this and shame on this company for slapping together this horrible thing with no one apparently going over them to finish the rest of the job by smoothing and shaping this mess.

Great item for leopard geckos. Mine loves it. As soon as I put it in her tank she got right in. Great for climbing as well.

In the description it states that it is hand painted. It appears more like a grafitti artist with a can of spray paint freestyled a piece. Anyways aside from the fact it hardly looked like the pictures posted to sell it on Amazon, it really is kind of ugly. It does not look remotely natural.Sadly, I could of lived with that because I hate returning things. What really bothered me is that the figure shown on the listing for the medium resin step ledge cave indicates it is 7 inches tall. In reality it barely makes 4 inches. I’m really curious about who the man was err uhhh person that was taking the measurements here...

I read reviews for this Penn-Plax Reptology Shale Step Ledge for Aquariums and was a bit concerned about a few folks complaining about sharp edges and safety issues. I didn't experience any of these concerns and my fish seem quite happy with their new home and decor. The Shale Step Ledge is a perfect size and has holes large enough for our full grown pletco to swim through. I placed one of the bubblers inside the opening in back to give it added appeal. I'm happy with this purchase and believe my fish are too!

This was one of my leopard gecko's very first hides. And it's her favorite (though it's her warm hide so that might have something to do with it).I remember wondering how the size of the hide would work for my gecko when I was first perusing hides, so here's my two cents: She's had this since she came home at 6 months old, and when she was that tiny, she was able to comfortably squish herself under the lower part. She's now fully grown--and probably has some giant in her. She's 9.5 inches long and this hide still works for her.The stepping on the hide works really well when trying to get some layers in the enclosure--they're small enough that when she was small she didn't have any issues climbing around.This hide did have some relatively sharp edges when I got it, but I used a nail file to sand any of them down a bit (and that might've just been the overly-paranoid first-time gecko owner in me).5 stars, will definitely buy again if (and when) another reptile enters my life.

I really liked it it's exactly as it's described, it does though look tiny in a 70 gallon tank. I upgraded my bearded dragons tank size and it looked so empty so I bought multiple products this is the first one to arrive. I should have splurged though and got the large one or extra large because I don't think it's going to be big enough for him for much longer. There was only one problem with it make sure you flip it over and look inside there was a sharp edge that I needed to file down so he wouldn't cut himself if he decided to go through it.

Great item! It's the perfect size for my fish. My Dwarf Gourami loves it. He can go in and out from the 3 opening very comfortably. It fits a few fish in there. Iv'e seen the Gourami, two corydoras and a kuhli loach in there at the same time with enough space left. It's good for small fish like mine. Recommended item.

I love this and my gecko does, she likes to hide under it when she's awake and it's great exercise for her while hunting, she goes after crickets on top of it and under it, it's a perfect size for her and it looks fantastic! I couldn't be more pleased with the purchase and would highly recommend

Negatives:For anyone buying this product, beware that the inside is extremely dangerous for your fish. On the inside the edges and ridges are Razor sharp, and I'm not exaggerating here, I nearly sliced my finger! This is unusable as your fish will cut themselves. I am going to try and sand everything down if possible because there seems to be a shortage of Aquarium supplies most likely due to COVID-19 and Supplies from China. If the manufactures can see this, please please please take some time to smooth out the edges or change your molds some how because its useless as is with the sharp edges. It also has a slight smell of a chemical or glue but this seems to go away as you wash it.Positives:The outside looks very nice it has a nice weight to it.

I can now see my little leopard gecko when she hides under this. Ziggy also loves to sit on top of this at nighttime and survey her vivarium before she goes off hunting for food.

Arrived next day... Nice smooth edges underneath. Looks fantastic and getting loads of interest from my fish.. Very pleased with it.

Smaller than expected, very sharp on the inside.Good product otherwise, looks realistic and the outside feels like a nice texture. Perfect for my Leopard Gecko.
