NO! These are made with HPPE, per the description, which begins to dissolve & melt at 220°F, about half the temp at which paper burns. HPPE is outlawed for use in military clothing contracts for this reason. If exposed to fire, the HPPE fibers can melt onto the skin and cause severe damage. *DO NOT USE FOR FIRE PROTECTION*

I do wear them when I am in the water, they are not water resistant as the water soaks into them. After I wear them in the pool, I wash them and throw them into the dryer. I bought them to wear while I taught children swimming lessons.
