and i am happy!

Without reading and understanding fully the accurate description about how to attach this product, I went ahead and attached it to a USB hub. I soon had a valuable cd trapped in the product, not being able to use the computer's eject button and having no eject button on the product itself. After trying many different computer searches and actions, and considering returning the product, I contacted a local computer assistance company. They also tried a number of moves without success, until one technician, upon learning about the hub attachment, said, there's the answer to your problem! They had determined that there was nothing wrong with the product since it worked in their workshop on a similar MAC computer. I then hooked it to my own computer. All the computer based hubs were full, so I switched the mouse USB plug (which I put in the hub slot) with the product plug and success at last. The answer: this product needs the extra power of the computer to function. This product now works flawlessly for me, and i am happy!

Good value and does the job

Speedy customer service. Item arrived in Australia in good time.So far happy with the disk drive, it's literally plug in and play - no setting up, no drivers to install. No searching for a box to tick somewhere to initiate communication. Simplicity itself. So from that perspective its a useful addition to an intuitive Mac.The nice, clean, simple design compliments my MacBook. I have been adding all my cd's and it works seamlessly with iTunes so far. I haven't tried doing anything else yet, but transferring my CDs was my main objective. So far so good. The only negative that I might foresee is that if it jams for some reason it can't be popped open.So as long as that doesn't happen I'm happy with this purchase and glad I took the risk and didn't splash out for a Mac disk drive.

Failed rather quickly...

I initially bought this drive to use with a 2017 iMac, which has no internal DVD drive. Setup was simple - it was recognized automatically by macOS the first time I plugged it in. When I first used the drive, there was a clicking sound when it ejected a disc and it appeared that the disc was actually catching on the upper lip of the slot, like the top surface of the drive was slightly bowed downward. Despite this, the drive seemed to work fine ripping music CD's into iTunes for a couple of months so I didn't think anything more of it. I probably ripped a dozen CD's without any errors or data corruption in the music files.I had the drive for about 8 weeks when I installed Windows 10 in Boot Camp on my iMac for some software testing. The drive worked automatically in Windows 10 as well and it appeared everything was fine. I installed 2 applications but the 3rd application failed when I tried to swap from Disc 1 to Disc 2 during setup. It was an older program with a Windows XP/Vista compatible installer, so I chalked it up to the software being at fault.About a week later, I reset my Windows partition to start my testing over with a fresh install. This time, the first application install (which had worked previously) failed. I cleaned the disc, tried it again, and the install went a little further the second time but again, it ultimately failed. At this point, I tried the disc in another machine and it worked.Frustrated, I purchased a different drive and when it arrived, tried the process all over from scratch. Not only did the first application install fine but the third application installed without incident as well, despite having an older installer and multiple discs. It appears to me that sometime around the 8 week mark, the drive started generating read errors that got progressively worse until the drive didn't work at all. What's worse is that my usage I would classify as "light". I maybe used the drive 1-2 times a week up until the point that I started my Windows software testing. When taking that into consideration, this drive didn't last long at all.Luckily I purchased a protection plan for a couple of bucks - the new drive I bought, despite being highly rated and a best seller, was cheaper than this one by enough that once the warranty company reimburses me, I'll be even.

Good customer service and good machine

Edited review: I was contacted by the vendor immediately after my initial review. They offered to replace the device for free acknowledging that I maybe had a defective device that wasn't performing properly. My replacement arrived post-haste but I did not get a chance to use it right away. When I finally did it worked beautifully and I was able to do everything with it that a DVD drive should do. Thank you to Version Tech for your generous support and care.Original review. Ya, sure, it connects. It plays the CD/DVD. But it doesn't read file names and it doesn't write them to the computer. It makes scratching noises like it's eating your disc every time it moves. I'm frankly afraid to use the thing and it's a terrible inconvenience because I have to manually rewrite everything.

Great product, read on...

This product came within 2 days of me ordering it. Customer service is great. I didn't realize there is a 45 day return policy and a full year warranty on the product! Not that you will need it. It is SO simple. I am pathetic when it comes to tech stuff. Literally, you plug it into the usb port on your computer (i have an apple) and put in a CD. It automatically opens to iTunes, and asks "do you want to import this disc?" You hit "yes" and your good to go. 5-10 minutes later and its done.I couldn't be happier. I have a huge CD collection, and now I will finally have all my music in my computer and on my IPOD. (yes, I still use an iPod. I have a smart phone, but it's an android...from work). I am thrilled!I have used it non stop for a week now, with no problems whatsoever. Great buy. For the money, you can't beat it! Customer service is awesome as well. They reached out to me to make sure I was happy with the product. Who does that anymore?!
