Piggyback & Container Traffic (Modern Railroader Books)

Like many of these books, this one had great writeups on how the industry works. What is lacks is specific examples on how to model the industry on your layout. I would have liked to see more about how to model a small/medium/large intermodal yard. The information is in the books, but one needs to read and understand the industry in order to get an idea on how to model it.

Good book about piggy back operations. Was a little short on early piggy back cars and trailers.

Another excellent book by Jeff Wilson. I was concerned that there may have been duplication from his other books and chapters on the same subject. My fears were ill-founded. Okay it obviously has chapters on early history and freight car, van and container evolution (all with new content) but the last few chapters on terminals and operation are a real insight. Jeff Wilson has the knack of pitching his books just at the right level. I now have quite a library just of his books.

Der Autor gibt eine sehr fundierte Einführung sowohl über den TOFC ( Trailer on flatcar ) Verkehr der amerikanischen Eisenbahnen als auch die später einsetzende Containersierung des Frachtverkehrs weltweit. Viele Hintergrundinformationen, z.B. über die unterschiedlichen Containermasse im amerikanischen Binnenverkehr, Stapelvorschriften und vieles andere mehr. Interessant für alle, die sich für modernen Gütertransport auf amerikanischen Eisenbahnen interessieren.

Gute Zusammenfassung zu dem Thema, die geschichtliche Entwicklung des Ladungsverkehrs wird ebenfalls deutlich, ebenso der Grund, daß Trailer heutzutage weniger verladen als Container. Das Buch beschreibt die Situation in USA.Reichlich Bilder, auch ältere s/w Fotos, für an US-Eisenbahn Interessierte zu empfehlen.
