A Great RPG for Tolkien Fans
A disclaimer: I haven't played this rpg much. I have only played a few one-shots with this system. What I do know about this system is that it's based off of DnD 5e core rules (which I really enjoy), but this book includes special rules and items for the setting.First, let's talk about the playable races. You can play a Mirkwood elf, a hobbit, a dwarf, a man of Laketown, a Beorning, and my personal favorite, a Dunedain Ranger. Each of the races are unique with special abilities and motivations. This setting tries to fit as accurately as it can into Tolkien's lore. The setting takes place in the seventy or so years between the end of the Hobbit and the Fellowship of the Ring, and it focuses on the northern region of Middle Earth, the area the Hobbit takes place in (Mirkwood, Erebor, the Misty Mountains, etc.).Second, let's talk about the gameplay. This will run just like DnD but with a few important additional game phases. The most notable is the fellowship phase. Adventures are divided up into stages. The first stage has the fellowship form and then plan a route. The GM makes a series of rolls based off the danger of the area and the difficulty of terrain. Plus it adds in the fellowship guide's skill in pathfinding. Then the group will have random encounters and difficulties/boons based off the rolls until they reach their goal. After they complete their adventure and safely (hopefully) return home, they enter the next phase, in which the players spend anywhere from a few months to several years to train new schools, work jobs, and rest. Adventures in Middle Earth understands the slow pass of time and uses it effectively.Third, and closely related to the last point, this game takes a slightly more realistic perspective on combat and healing. Series wounds can take anywhere from in-game days to weeks to heal from. Combat varies based on terrain, and in keeping with combat in the Hobbit and LOTR, combat is focused less on attacking enemies and more on repelling enemy attacks. Treasure and loot is also handled differently. Unlike in DnD where the party actively looks for gold, AiME encourages the GM to reward their players differently, with either weapons and armor or with better relationships with local rulers. One final note. This book does not include many monster stats (if any). These will be found in the AiME Dungeon Master's Guide, a book I highly recommend you pick up in conjunction with this if you plan to DM this.In conclusion, this is an excellent RGP for fans of Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit. The book quality I received was excellent with a beautiful hardback and a strong spine. 5/5

The One Ring Game for D&D Players!
This book is essentially the One Ring rule book written for the D&D 5.0 rule system instead. The art is the same, the organization (as much as possible given the different rule systems) is the same, the time frame and locations used for Middle Earth are the same, and some of the game mechanics even are the same. For me, this book was a godsend because I had tried to run a One Ring campaign and just couldn't keep it going, mainly because of the rules. Don't get me wrong, I think the One Ring rules are awesome, but for me and my players, they just were not very intuitive and learning how the stuff on the character sheet actually relates to the play of the game was a pretty steep learning curve and we eventually just gave up.This book, IMO, takes all the great stuff from the One Ring book which makes the game feel like a Tolkien novel, but uses most of the very familiar D&D 5.0 game mechanics for actual play. As an example, this book includes the Journey Phase of the One Ring game which really makes the players feel like their characters are traveling on a long road of adventure, just like Tolkien's books do. They also took out a lot of the stuff in the standard D&D 5.0 game that makes no sense for a Middle Earth setting. For example, magic is almost nonexistent, long rests are only possible if the characters are in a sanctuary-type environment, etc. The classes will be somewhat familiar with slightly different names, but there are some really interesting more Middle Earth classes, like the Scholar and the Warden, that are quite cool and will give old-time players something new to play with.If you want as pure of a Middle Earth role-playing experience as possible, I would say go with the One Ring rules. There are some things about D&D 5.0 no matter how much you alter the rules that are not very good "fits" for a pure Tolkien experience. However, if you like the comfort of the familiar D&D 5.0 rules (or any version of the game for that matter), while at the same time capturing that feel of a Tolkien novel, I would say go with this book. I am running a limited campaign right now using these rules and am really enjoying it.

Otimo livro!
