Q: Does this need to be refrigerated until ready for use?

yes refridgerate. also you can resalt with canning/pickeling salt,refridgerate the unused and they will keep for at least 6 months. its worked for me

Q: How best to store once opened and how long will they remain usable?

I've used pre tubed casings for years. After opening jar I store unused casing in a zip lock bag. I pack them with maybe 2 or 3 tablespoons of kosher salt. This is recommended storage of non pre tubed and works well with these. When needed soak and rinse in a few quarts of cool water, change water 3 times. Total soak time of 45 - 60 minutes or so. I just made some sausage with casings that were 8 months old and found no loss in quality. I'm a chef by trade and use these in my restaraunt and for personal use. High quality product that is a big time saver if you've ever wrestled with non pre tubed.

They were not pretubed, but they were some of the best casings we have ever used. They went on the casing stuffer easy, were long and no blowouts.

We thought they were supposed to be pre tubed, but they were not. It made no difference to us because the casings were of high quality and were easy to put on the casing tube. But the description was wrong in our case.
