What makes Corelle dinnerware so Tough? --------------------------------------- 3 Layer Glass ------------- Corelle has a unique patented manufacturing process, where an inner core glass is laminated by 2 thin layers of outer skin clear glass in molten stage to form 3 layers. After forming into shapes, as this composition cools down, the higher expansion inner glass contracts faster than the outer glass. This causes the core glass to pull in the outer glass tightly on itself. The resulting compression strengthens the glass giving the product its toughness. The glass is then tempered to add more strength.
